Carnegie and Rockefeller did not act so much through direct action. Rather, their philanthropic deeds funded the establishments of many principle buildings and associations, many of which still remain today. Rockefeller acted on his fervent moral principles and as well on his religion; he was fair in the way he conducted business as a whole (though some deals were less than innocent.). Following his role model, Carnegie, he funded several schools and scientific facilities. Carnegie was more ruthiless than Rockefeller was; he tried several times to increase his income while at the same time reducing that of the workers. Many people considered him cruel and corrupt as his monopoly expanded across the nation. |
